What to expect of an Ottawa hardwood flooring installation

Here is what you should expect. 

Ordering

You should expect to sign a contract, pay for the materials upfront, and include a deposit for the labour costs. At this point, your materials are ordered. The delivery time will depend upon any special requests and the location of the supplier. Generally, the time frame is 10 to 14 days. Texturing, custom orders, etc., will take longer. Once the materials reach our warehouse, you will be contacted to schedule the installation. 

Delivery

We will firm up a time and day about a week before the delivery date. We ask that you have an area cleared of furniture so that we can place the cartons of wood in the home. This will acclimate the wood to the environment.   

Preparation

We will remove and label all baseboards or cabinet moulding. We will also move any large pieces of furniture, including beds, couches, appliances, etc. You will be instructed to move any breakable items yourself before our arrival. While we will be happy to move or remove appliances, they must be reinstalled by a licensed plumber.

We will remove the old flooring if this is a renovation or remodelling project. The time frame for this will depend upon how the existing floor was installed. We generally expect it to take a day, but this can grow to several depending on the circumstances. We will dispose of all the old flooring.

We will cover all cabinets, doorways and electronics with plastics to reduce the amount of dust accumulation.  

We will review the subflooring and determine if any corrections need to be made. We will keep you informed of the details, and any costs will be billed separately. This is an essential step so that your new floors will be solid and any moisture barriers installed appropriately.

Installation

We will begin by determining the longest run or the most significant distance to lay the Ottawa flooring. Then we can divide the area into sections and complete the installation room by room. The time to completion will vary depending on the volume of flooring to be laid and the incidentals like stairs. You should expect anywhere from 2 days to a week. 

After installation, we reinstall and caulk baseboards and cabinet mouldings and remove any tape. We replace the furniture and appliances, but a plumber must complete any reconnections.

Completion

After all, is done, we will have our supervisor walk through the area with the homeowner or business manager. This is to assure you that we have met all of your expectations. If there are any items to address, we will discuss them and schedule a time for the work. When everything is as expected, we will issue the final bill for payment.
